An area known as the Snake River Breaks was ravaged by wildfire in 2005 burning some 26,000+ acres of private and public lands. This fire burned for days displacing wildlife and cattle. The Idaho Department of Fish and Game, Bureau of Land Management and the county weed department are working cooperatively to control the noxious weeds in this area. Scotch thistle ranks the highest in populations with White top, Perennial pepperweed and Canada thistle threatening this remote area. In addition cooperators have identified isolated infestations of Spotted knapweed and Rush skeletonweed which are considered new invaders to this area. With limited resources a pro-active approach is being taken inspecting clean areas to ensure they remain weed free. Native brush species as well as grasses were displaced in countless drainage’s while others went untouched as if the fire never existed. Cooperators are very dedicated to the rehab of this fire area and will continue to dedicate all available resources to this project, in addition extensive bitterbrush plantings have been done.
