Sage Rock Central
The Sage Rock Central Project area lies in the foothills northwest of Weiser.  Private landowners saw a need for a more coordinated effort several years ago as they struggled to control weeds on their own property.  Realizing that a coordinated effort was the answer they joined forces and the rest is history.  This project is unique as it features flat pastures as well as steep hills that a goat would look think twice about climbing.  Nine landowners, the BLM and county weed department gather each spring to treat Scotch thistle, White top, Perennial pepperweed, and Poison hemlock.  Rush skeletonweed is threatening this area as is Yellow starthistle which one particular ranch has declared war upon.  This past summer this project area was hit hard by the firestorm of the Warm Springs Fire.  Cooperators are anxious to see if all their hard work has been undone by the wrath of a few lightening strikes.  Work will continue in the spring with the treatment area being enlarged to take in additional acres which were burned.  The original project area included 25,000 acres much of which is a host to wildlife including sizeable deer and elk populations as well as cattle grazing.
