Dutch Flat Rush Skeletonweed

Jerry McLay

Dutch Flat Project Coordinator
Eleven private landowners and volunteers congregate in the Dutch Flat area southeast of Midvale to crusade against Rush skeletonweed.   These folks have also enlisted the help of a handful of neighbors whom are not yet infected with this species but wish to assist for the good the neighborhood.   Landowners have been fighting this weed independently for many years and have realized that the cooperative effort made the past three years has been a huge success and wish to continue.   Many found their problems are more extensive than they had originally thought.   Two days are necessary to complete the cooperative effort.   Cooperators stage at the McLay Ranch on Loney Road and volunteers are always welcome.   In addition to herbicide treatments extensive rehabilitation will continue on large tracts of property with seed varieties including Intermediate and crested wheatgrass, Ladak alfalfa, and small burnett.   Seed varieties are typically drilled in the late fall.   Landowners seeding efforts are very complimentary to weed control efforts as a whole.
